Suffering does not come from pain, but from attachment to pain. At least, that is the thought pattern for those who believe in radical acceptance. Steeped in Buddhism and the ideas of Carl Rogers, this thought process is said to bring positive change into one's life. But how can you practice radical acceptance?

What is Radical Acceptance?

Radical acceptance is when you stop mentally fighting your reality. It is when you stop responding to your negative-feeling thoughts and let go of attachment to the world around you. It’s the ability to accept situations that are outside of your control. If you are able to do this without judgment your suffering from outside forces can be greatly reduced.

Instead of being attached to your past experiences or your future outcomes you can unattach and be free from suffering. This doesn’t necessarily mean detaching from reality but instead means that you are non-judgmental of the world around you. Through this, you can find peace, be present, and ultimately be happier.

What Does Non-Acceptance Look Like?
