How Do You Get Out of a Mental Slump?
Mental health ebbs and flows, it’s inevitable. This reality can be difficult to face, especially if you are someone who experiences a significant difference in your high days and your low days.
If you’re like me, you can probably feel the low days coming on. Maybe you have a little fatigue or irritability. Maybe you know there is a day ahead where you have to tackle some less-than-exciting stuff. But, having a plan to bring yourself out of the slump can be incredibly helpful. Even better than a well-thought-out plan is allowing yourself to feel negative emotions fully.
Catching it Early
You may have some tell-tale signs of low mental health days. For some, it is easier to predict than for others. It is important that you get to know your body and mind so that you can be sensitive to your mental health. Some signs you may be trending downward include:
- Fatigue
- Smaller or larger appetite
- Inability to focus
- Doom scrolling
- Loss of interest in usual activities
- Avoiding socialization
- Overuse of substances (e.g. alcohol)
