Sensitivity is A Virtue
“Toughen up!” “Don’t be so dramatic!” “You are reading into things way too much!!”
Sensitivity has been muffled and silenced for a long time. If you are a sensitive person, I am sure you’ve been told the things above. But, I am here to tell you that being a sensitive person is a virtue.
If you google “sensitive” you will find many pictures of crying children and people holding their heads in distress. You will be prompted with the word “woman”. As if being a sensitive woman is a bad, unnatural thing.
It is time for sensitive people to take back the word. Use it as a tool of empowerment and love. Sensitivity is:
- Being delicate toward other's feelings
- Holding space for people who need it
- Understanding the subtle nuances of human emotion
- Expressing fully, openly, and lovingly
Sensitivity does not equal weakness or coward. It means that you are in tune with the world around you. You are able to express yourself and feel your feelings. We could definitely use a little bit more of that in the world.
